3D Printing French Macaron now available on sculpteo.com!

French Macaroon, or Macaron, is a very delicate type of confectionery, very often used as a present (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macaron). Made of meringue, sugar and almonds, Macarons’ detailed recipes are kept secret by most cook.

Our R&D team worked hard in our Pyrennées’ factory to be able to 3D print this cake, allowing the newest technology to be mixed with the highest tradition.

And YES, we are proud to announce that we now offer 3D printing of Macaron. 

How does it work ?

3D printing Macaron is a process very similar to Selective Laser Sintering of Polyamide (sculpteo.com/materials/white_plastic/). We use a special mix of flour, sugar, eggs and almond powder inside the 3d printing laser sintering machine. The tricky part here is to be sure that eggs won’t react too much with the dough.

We tuned the Laser power to give just enough energy to transform eggs into meringue and form the Macaron in itself.

After printing the Macaron, the machine will slightly raise the temperature to cook the small cakes and give them their final form.

Operator is then able to get them out of the machine.

The last problem we are facing now is that we have a higher failure rate than on other materials, probably because people at the factory are tasting cakes!

OK, what can you do with this?

The purpose of all this of course not to 3D print regular macarons. Our designers fantasy started to work and some experimentations already began with our newest material.

We have famous cooks working with us to benefit from this bleeding-edge technology. We are excited to report that P.H. stated:

This is a new and extremely pleasant technology. No doubt I will integrate this into my shops, and have some experiments with 3d printed macarons.
