Posted By Alexia Toulmet on Jun 25, 2014 | 0 comments

The price of your 3D print depends on many factors: the material you choose, the volume the object occupies, the amount of used material and the finishings, to name a few. Sculpteo designed two simple features especially for you, to better fit your budget. This post will help you to better understand the tools you have at your disposal to pay less for your 3D prints.

Two of them in particular can help with price optimization: Hollowing and Batch Control.

Hollowing your 3D model doesn’t require any particular 3D skill: rather than uploading, editing, than uploading again, you can do it online, at absolutely no cost. This feature will help you to reduce the volume of material used within the final object: it is a good way to hep you reduce the price of your 3D prints.

To hollow your 3D file:

–  Choose the object you’d like to print and click “Print” and click on the “Optimize” heading under the rendered model

–  Flip the “Hollowing” tool feature to “On”

–  Watch the price fall!

–  Add at least two holes to drain the excess volume of the object

The hollowing tool is also convenient if you want your object to be lighter, which is necessary in certain situation (if you are 3D printing a mechanical part for a flying drone for instance).

Another option is to use Batch Control to print your objects. You’ll be able to activate this function when your number of objects within the print is over 20. This enables you to optimize the positioning of your objects in order to get a better control over pricing and orientation.

A personal factory service just for you, at lower price, whether your print is for individual, professional or business use.
